Configuration and Commissioning
The symmedia Edge Devices are configured according to the default specifications at the time of delivery. They must be physically connected to existing networks for commissioning. Due to differences in network configurations, changes to the network settings may be necessary.
There are two ways to make these changes. One way is to use the visual setup interface, which is explained below. The other option is to set up the device using a USB stick. Please contact us if you would like more information about this method.
Security Information
The delivered configuration of the Edge Device is secure. Changes to the configuration should be made cautiously to avoid compromising your network's security.
Commissioning the symmedia Edge Device Hardware
Connect the Ethernet cables to the device.
To configure the device via the setup cockpit, connect the network cable to the LAN connection as indicated on the label.
To connect to the internet, connect the network cable to the WAN connection.
Optional: Connect the supplied WLAN antennas to the antenna sockets using WLAN antenna extension cables, if necessary.
Finally, connect the device to the power supply system via the DC connector.
If a network cable is plugged in or unplugged from the WAN interface of the symmedia Edge Device while it it operating, the device may not be able to connect to the network. If this happens, please
Disconnect the device from the power supply and plug it in again. The network will be detected after the restart.
To avoid this issue, please only plug or unplug the network connectors when the device is disconnected from the power supply.
Setup Cockpit
Starting the Setup Cockpit when connected via LAN
Connect the network cable to the LAN port.
Assign an IP address in the appropriate range (e.g., 192.168.214.2) on the PC.
In the browser, call up the setup cockpit via the IP address of your device in the GREEN network (LAN), on port 9090 - e.g. https://192.168.214.1:9090
Starting the Setup Cockpit via WLAN connection
Connect to the access point "WLAN_" plus the serial number of the box, e.g., "WLAN_3215122s014".
Enter the serial number of the box twice in succession as the password, e.g. "3215122s0143215122s014" (without quotation marks).
in the browser, call up the setup cockpit via the IP address of your device in the GREEN network (LAN), on port 9090 - e.g. https://192.168.214.1:9090
Now, the login screen should now open in the browser:
Enter username "sym-tech" and password "sym-tech" plus serial number of the box, e.g.
"sym-tech3205307s005" (without quotation marks), the checkbox "Reuse my password for privileged tasks." must be set.Click on Log in.
The interface of the setup cockpit opens:
Under no circumstances should you change the hostname of the device!
Changing the Hostname under Configuration will result in the device being disconnected from the cloud. This means that services like tunnel or VNC will no longer be available.
If the hostname is changed by mistake, it must be reset to the initial value and the device must be rebooted.
Settings of the Setup Cockpit
Using the drop-down menu in the upper right corner, you can set the display language by clicking on Display Language:
The system time and date is set automatically via NTP.
The Edge Device uses the NTP servers provided by DHCP (Option 42) on the "RED" interface. If this option is not set the Edge Device will use the default NTP server configuration.
To support the default NTP server configuration the firewalls should allow the UDP port 123 for the hosts: "http://0.ubuntu.pool.ntp.org ", "1.ubuntu.pool.ntp.org", "2.ubuntu.pool.ntp.org", "3.ubuntu.pool.ntp.org".
There is also a fallback NTP server defined, which can also be opened in the firewall: "ntp.ubuntu.com".
It is also possible to configure an NTP server in the cockpit:
Enter the NTP server address to synchronize with in the field.
Confirm input with .
The entry can be deleted via .
Via , it can be checked if an NTP server has already been entered.
Logout of the cockpit
To log out of the cockpit, click Logout.
