Edge Device Operation in the People's Republic of China
Instructions for Service Technicians
Purpose of this Guide
This guide applies to Edge Devices that are already operating in the People’s Republic of China (PRC), or will be moved there. We are offering a specific endpoint for Port Unification within the PRC to provide superior connection quality and bandwidth.
On-site Requirements
Firewall Settings
Before migration or commissioning begins, the customer's IT department must ensure that the default required target addresses are accessible. In order to use the Port Unification endpoint within the PRC, an additional setting is required:
Endpoint | IP Address | Port | Note |
|---|---|---|---|
Portunification China | 443 | Must be reachable from the customer network. |
Important: As far as our experience goes, Edge Devices cannot be reliably operated in the PRC without using our specific Port Unification endpoint.
Please make sure that the customer's IT department has implemented all required firewall settings before the appointment.
Edge Device Prerequisites
In order to use Port Unification in the PRC, you need an Edge Device running OS version 25.09.4 or later.
If the Edge Device in question is not running the required OS version, it needs to be updated. Due to the suboptimal standard connection, it is recommended that you update the device via a USB flash drive. Instructions can be found here.
Step-by-step Process
The process described below is a current workaround. In the future, these settings will be configurable directly from the portal.
Create a support ticket on the symmedia Helpdesk. (https://symmedia.atlassian.net/servicedesk/customer/portals)
Include the device serial number and location in the ticket.
symmedia Support will make the necessary URL adjustments. This can be done either locally via a USB stick or manually via GraphQL.
Final Checks
The Edge Device is visible in symmedia Hub and displayed as ONLINE.
The Edge Device uses the designated China endpoint.
Check in the Cockpit on the Edge Device:
Open Cockpit, navigate to Services → PTW
Check the PTW Service Logs for the portunification URL, i.e. portunification-cn.symmedia-hub.com
Downloads and updates run without interruption.
The Operator was informed that the firewall approvals must remain active.
In Case of Error
Do not make independent changes if there are deviations, unreachable target addresses, or unclear status messages. Document the issue and contact symmedia Support with the device serial number (S/N), location, time, and error message:
