Description

The SSC Data Link Tunnel is an upgrade to our existing tunnel connections, with more control and connectivity options. With this new feature, you can now remotely connect for example to TIA Portal controllers seamlessly and efficiently.

Please ensure the following conditions are met:

  1. Latest Edge Device Version: Your edge device must be updated to the latest version ( >= 24.05.0 ).

  2. Associated Application Installation: The SSC Data Link Tunnel Extension application must be installed on your edge device.

  3. Client with Extension: Installing the client with the Data Link extension is necessary to use the SSC Data Link Tunnel.

App Installation 


  • Navigate to the Applications tab via the left hand navigation menu.
  • Click on the desired version of the SSC Data Link Tunnel application.



The Installations tab shows if an SSC Data Link Tunnel application is already installed on a machine.

The Requirements tab shows the system requirements necessary to install the app on the edge device.
  • Click on to install the selected app on the edge device for the respective asset.

  • Select the Asset where you want to install the application from the Asset dropdown menu.
  • In this menu, it is only possible to select Connected Assets (with a paired edge device) as an edge device and a connection are mandatory. 

  • Configure the application:
    • Remote start IP address (IPv4): Start IP address for the tunnel connection. Must be within the network in which the machine is located and has to be free, i.e. not be used by anything else.
    • Remote endIP address (IPv4): End IP address for the tunnel connection. Must be within the network in which the machine is located and has to be free, i.e. not be used by anything else.
    • Loglevel data link server: Level of detail of the logging.
      Ranges from 1 (Error) to 2 (Warn), 3 (Info ), 4 (Debug) and 5 (Trace). The higher the level, the more log outputs are written. At 1 (Error), only the errors appear in the log, at 3 (Info) also information such as "Connection established" and "Message received", at 4 and 5 then further details about e.g. the processing of the message.
  • Proceed by clicking .


A summary of your input is displayed.

  • Return to your input by clicking  if you want to correct the entries.
  • Click on to install the selected app on the edge device for the respective asset.

A new entry appears in the Installations tab, with a new Installation Status: Installing. A green box at the bottom shows that the installation process was triggered successfully.

The installation is finished as soon as the Installation Status says Installed. The Application is now ready to use.

  • Click on the button at the end of the row to edit the installation settings.


I can not see the SSC Data Link Tunnel Application? How can I proceed?

If an application is visible on the applications page or not is dependent on the models of your assets. The application needs to by assigned to a model and configured for this specific  model by the Service Provider of this Asset. Please contact your Service Provider.
