App: SSC Data Link Tunnel Extension

App: SSC Data Link Tunnel Extension

Description

The SSC Data Link Tunnel is an upgrade to our existing tunnel connections, with more control and connectivity options. With this new feature, you can now remotely connect for example to TIA Portal controllers seamlessly and efficiently.

Required User Role

  • Workshop Manager

Please ensure the following conditions are met:

  1. Latest Edge Device Version: Your edge device must be updated to the latest version ( >= 24.05.0 ).

  2. Associated Application Installation: The SSC Data Link Tunnel Extension application must be installed on your Edge Device. The required configuration parameters are explained below.

  3. Client with Extension: Installing the client with the Data Link extension is necessary to use the SSC Data Link Tunnel.

Configuration Parameters

IPv4 Address Range (Start Address/ End Address)

Log Level Data Link Server

A dedicated, unused IPv4 address range in the machine network (GREEN) is required to install the app.

This range defines the maximum number of Data Link Clients that can connect to the machine’s endpoints simultaneously. The entire IP address range must be free; otherwise, IP address collisions may occur during operation, as these addresses will later be allocated to Data Link clients.

For instance, you can reserve the following range:

192.168.214.190 – 192.168.214.194

This provides 5 usable IPv4 addresses for client assignment and enables five simultaneous connections.

  • Remote start IP address (IPv4): Start IP address for the tunnel connection. Must be within the network in which the machine is located and has to be free, i.e. not be used by anything else.

  • Remote end IP address (IPv4): End IP address for the tunnel connection. Must be within the network in which the machine is located and has to be free, i.e. not be used by anything else.

This setting controls how detailed the device’s log output is. It is mainly intended for support purposes, helping to analyze issues more effectively.Ranges from:

  • 1 (Error): Only errors are logged.

    • 2 (Warn): Errors and warnings are logged.

    • 3 (Info): General information (Default).

    • 4 (Debug): Includes more technical details, e.g., message processing steps.

    • 5 (Trace): Full detail level for in-depth troubleshooting.

The higher the level, the more log outputs are written. At 1 (Error), only the errors appear in the log, at 3 (Info) also information such as "Connection established" and "Message received", at 4 and 5 then further details about e.g. the processing of the message.
